The cigarettes are radioactive

Filed in Politics Tags: , , ,

In case you missed the title, let me repeat. The fucking cigarettes are fucking radioactive.

This is not some kind of weird, sci-fi, brain-eating-aliens-are-infiltrating-our-economy nut jobbery. There is a measurable amount of polonium 210 in every cigarette sold in the U.S. (except for maybe American Spirit). There is also a measurable amount of lead 210, although I hear it’s not quite as deadly as polonium. Read the rest of this entry »

WordPress: Difference between “trash” and “delete” functions

Filed in WordPress Tags: , , , ,

WordPress has two native functions for removing posts. The traditional function, wp_delete_post, originated back in the day and has been used for a long while by post-related plugins. A second function, wp_trash_post, was added in version 2.9. Here’s a short explanation. Read the rest of this entry »

The maximum nesting level of 40 has been reached.

When you click on a corporate media kit, you expect to find…well…a fucking media kit. Oh, no. Elle magazine is too high class to use the same old shit everyone else does. Instead, they provide a poorly Photoshopped picture of the impossible woman along with this message, repeated ad infinitum

The maximum nesting level of 40 has been reached. The execution is stopped to avoid infinite recursion.

See Part 1 – The Problem

As a quick recap: acting like a child when you come in contact with Governmental Authority does nothing. Stop it. You’re just making an obnoxious ass out of yourself.

Defying Authority Part 1 – The Problem

Filed in Politics Tags: , , , ,

As always, The Last Psychiatrist tickled my eyeballs with a new post on some pressing social issue. This time, the issue is Refusing to Answer the Feds. Alone points out, correctly, that refusing to answer some inane/mundane/*ane questions at border security, when stopped by police or while shopping for milk doesn’t change jack shit.

wp-PrettyPhoto: Height, width and iFrame issue solved!

Filed in WordPress Tags: , , , ,

I was trying to get my first customer for the BigFishGames plugin for WordPress up and running when we ran into an issue about iFrames. His theme wasn’t large enough to accommodate the game’s frame, so he requested a lightbox. Being a jQuery dummy, I ran to wp-prettyPhoto for help.

But, it didn’t work. =(

Oh, it opened it in a lightbox. But the height and width parameters weren’t working. According to the documentation, to use an iFrame you simply append

?iframe=true&width=[theWidth]&height=[theHeight]

Seems straight forward, but it wasn’t working. I tried the obvious – should I add “px”? How about “pixel”? Change around width and height? Then I tried the support forum, saw several other people asking the same question and no reponse. (Get to the point, Becky.)

Go into admin->settings->WP-prettyPhoto and uncheck . Problem solved. Have a nice day. =)

Help: My Magento Products Aren’t Showing Up!

Filed in Internet Tags: , , , ,

When my husband asked me at add content to his Magento store, I almost lost my mind. In general, I consider myself to be a fairly web-savvy gal, but Magento gave me a whole different circle of learning curve hell. I spent far too much time trying to figure out why my new products weren’t showing up in categories, on the front page or anywhere else. I’d followed several of the tutorials out there, but as a Magento n00b, none of them made much sense.

Daily Fun with Google Reader Play

Filed in Internet Tags: , , , ,

The only logical thing to do after running out of RSS items is to look for more. Google Reader Play is a novel extension of the existing reader that lets you consume data faster than you can process it. Expect to find some extremely funny, interesting or just bizarre stuff. What did I find?

Google Labs w00t and boo

Filed in Google Tags: , , , , ,

w00t: Google Listen. This has to be one of the coolest apps I have on my phone. While the search methodology took a few minutes to get (it’s not the usual Google goodness) I eventually found 6 full length house-trance-ambient podcasts. (Be sure to check out the World Electronic Podcast by Magnature – fucking hardcore.)

Listen is just a neat little podcast aggregator. Nothing more, nothing less. Search for them as you would feeds in Reader, listen to them, subscribe and download for later. Certainly beats the Pandora app that never worked quite right on my Moment.

And the boo: I DON’T WANT LATITUDE. Maps is great and all, but I did not want you to install a SECOND program that I will not use. While there may be a way to get rid of it, I don’t feel like putting in the effort to find out. give me an uninstall link in Market, please.

Latitude is, in a few words, a cyber-stalking program that queries where you are and shares your location with friends. Fun for LARPing maybe, or finding some place that’s out of the way, but otherwise it’s a battery draining novelty for friends to stalk each other. Or crazy exes to stalk you. Either way.
